The Following Information is for all Quilts
FABRIC: ‘LIGHT’ coloured AIDA CLOTH. White, cream, ecru, vintage white, off-white etc. are ALL acceptable. (Please do not use colours)
COUNT SIZE: 11, 14, 16 or 18 count AIDA (No linen please)
DIMENSIONS: Square size - 30 x 30 cm piece of Aida (approx. 12 x 12 inches) Pattern size - 23 x 23 cm or smaller design. (approx. 9 x 9 inches) If your pattern ends up being smaller than 7 x 7 cms (approx 3 x 3 inches) please put a border around it.
STITCHES: Please DO NOT use any LONG STITCHES on your square. We don’t want any stitches getting caught by little fingers.
THEME SQUARES: When signing up to stitch a square for a particular child, please choose a pattern to fit the theme of that child’s quilt and fill out the ‘sign up form’ found at the bottom of the child’s page. PLEASE WAIT for a confirmation from me before you start stitching as I have to make sure nobody else is stitching that pattern for that particular quilt. Please remember these squares have a DUE DATE listed on the child’s webpage. Any squares received after this due date will be used in an ‘Any Child’ or an ‘Emergency Quilt’ top of page
ANY CHILD SQUARES: You don’t need to notify me when making an ‘any child’ square, just send it in to use and include a note that states it is for ‘any child’. These squares can be for a boy or girl. These squares can be any pattern you choose. They will then be used for making up numbers for a quilt or for an ‘emergency quilt’. (If a child cannot wait the several months it takes to make a ‘theme quilt’ these squares are then used to make up the emergency quilt.)
SIGNING SQUARES: Please sign your square. Add your name and the area you are from, stitched close to the bottom of the pattern. Please DO NOT date your square or add the child’s name. top of page
SQUARE NUMBERS: A quilt is closed when enough stitchers have signed up. If we receive more squares for a specific quilt than expected we will make two quilts. If your square is to be used for a different child than you signed up for, I will contact you with the child’s name so you can see the finished quilt on their webpage.
SQUARE CARE: Please feel free to wash and dry your square before sending. Just after washing, while still wet, slowly iron with a moderately hot iron until dry. Do not iron the front side of the square only the back. Let dry for at least 24 hours before posting. Put WASHED or NOT WASHED on the note you include with your package. (If you are not comfortable washing your square, we will do it for you.) top of page

QUILT LABEL STITCHING: The quilt labels are quite simple to do and must be confirmed by me before being stitched. The wording that must be included on the label is:
Made With Love For (child’s first name) Quilts4Kids (month and year that quilt is due)
The wording can be incorporated on the label any way you like. The aida size can be up to 30cm square (the same as a normal square). If using a 30cm square the stitched area cannot be bigger than 23cm to allow for shrinkage and trimming.
I usually cut one of my 30cm squares in half and make two labels. So 30 x 15cm’s is fine as well. You can also add a little stitching that incorporates the theme and add a border if you like. On a smaller than 30cm square, please make sure your stitching leaves room for trimming and seam allowance, at least 3-4cm’s please, around the stitched area.
If you have any questions just let me know. There are photo’s of labels on the pages of the completed and delivered quilts, you may get some ideas there….

QUILT FINISHING: Once the due date for the theme squares has arrived, the squares we have received will be forwarded on to the quilt finishers. Once finished the quilts will be delivered to the child through registered mail. The parents will have to sign to receive the quilt. The finished quilts will be available for viewing on the individual child’s webpage.
