BIOGRAPHY
Billee was born on 19th October 2007 and was a healthy baby girl (we thought). When she was 6 weeks old we noticed her vision wasn't right and we took her to see a paediatric ophthalmologist. He thought Billee simply had a delay in her vision and it slowly began to improve over the next couple of months. Billee reached 5 months and still didn't seem to be making any attempt to reach for toys or use her hands at all. She had an MRI and with the results our world fell apart.
Billee was diagnosed with Lissencephaly (smooth brain), a very rare brain formation disorder characterised by the lack of normal convolutions (folds) in the brain. It is caused by defective neuronal migration, the process in which nerve cells move from their place of origin to their permanent location.
Lissencephaly makes Billee severely developmentally delayed, visually impaired and suffer from seizures. She is an amazing, beautiful and brave little girl. She fills our lives with joy and we saviour every moment with her. Billee’s favourite things to do are to sit and play with her 2 big sisters or to sit on their laps and have a big cuddle. Her little face lights up when she sees them. She is a precious gift from God.
