BIOGRAPHY
Aaron was 9 years old when he was diagnosed with Leukaemia. This was a huge shock to us as he is the eldest of our 3 boys and my children never really got sick.
Aaron was always very sporty. He loves mostly surfing but he also is very good at nippers, soccer, AFL, swimming, running, everything.
He is always happy and has a loving soul that everyone falls in love with. He always puts everyone else first and always has made me feel like a princess. Aaron loves family, he loves spending time with friends but he really cherishes his time with his family (mum, dad and his two younger brothers).
He loves camping so he can go surfing, skim boarding, boogie boarding and generally being out in the sun enjoying life. The day before Aaron was diagnosed he won ‘man of the match’ in soccer and showed no signs of being ill.
I took him to the doctor’s because he had a cough and a headache and was sent home from school. I don’t know what made me take him to the doctor because as I said, he doesn’t get sick. He had pneumonia and had blood tests straight away. Within half an hour, we were rushed to Brisbane Royal Children’s and that is where Aaron and I stayed for 10 months.
They said he should not have been alive with the Leukaemia levels he had. He fought hard all the way and I was with him every second. My family are very close and we have held strong and close together and we get through anything.
We are now back living at home but Aaron’s journey is still going as he is still on Chemo treatment for 3 and a half years. He gets tired and weak at times but it is hard to hold him down as he has his sporting spirit back, which is amazing since he was in a wheel chair and couldn’t even get to the toilet for 3-4 months of his treatment. He is amazing and is always wanting to do things for charity and for those dear to us. So Aaron and I have spoken at many functions and for organisations to help others and it is Aaron’s way of saying thanks for everything.
